PRECLINICAL MODELS | BBB
BBB Penetrance
IN VITRO models
Our unique Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) model is unique and assesses whether compounds can cross the BBB. Used under healthy or pathological conditions (AD, PD or stress), we examine:

-
Neuroprotection: good BBB permeability is key for the development of neuroprotective compounds. Using our model, we apply your compound to the luminal compartment - representing the blood circulating in the cerebral microcirculation - and study its effects on neurons in pathological conditions (e.g. Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s).

-
Drug permeability: our model is compatible with our internal analytical methods (e.g. UHPLC, MS...) in quantifying the in vitro plasma-to-brain passage of your molecule.

-
BBB integrity: we examine the integrity of endothelial tight junctions using fluorescent molecules before and after applying your compound, in order to check that it permeates ‘normally’, meaning no damage is caused to the endothelial cells and astrocytes.
